Unit 3 Sheet Examples

For Unit 3 I researched how different organisations advertise and promote their campaigns. I also gathered various examples to show how I could use similar techniques for my campaign.

Another examples of Unit 3 work that I completed whilst researching popular campaigns. I decided to research the popular Metro Trains campaign that involved cartoon characters dying in ridiculous situations to promote safety around trains.

Freelance Project- Little Paws Guesthouse

The brief was to create logos that include a similar dog to the clients own and also, with their increasing popularity, a pug. I first sketched the designs on paper before scanning in the images and live tracing them. I created various objects to feature in the logo behind the focus image being the cartoon dog, including an ice lolly and a beach umbrella, before finalising with a bucket and spade. The client appreciated this logo design for the likeliness of the cartoon dog that I created to their own pet.

The other part of the brief, to create a logo that features a pug, was to give the client the option of choosing between the dog stylised like their own and the other of a popular breed of dog. As with the other logo design I scanned in the original sketch and built up the developed logo from there, using various tools  such as the 'Brush Tool' 'Direct Selection Tool' and the 'Live Paint Bucket' to create the finished logo.

Unit 3 Logo Designs (Adobe Illustrator)

This is the final development of the 'Bloomin' Bees!' logo design, I live traced the font sketch using Adobe Illustrator, later fine tuning the lines edges by smoothing them using the 'Free Transform' tool. I maintained the 'hand written' feel to the font however as I thought that this looked more effective than using a already established font. From the original logo design I altered various features such as the dashed font and the addition of the vector bee in place of the letter 'i's tittle. I also altered the colour of the flower petals to create a more gender neutral logo for the brand.

First development for the 'Bloomin' Bees!' logo design. The first logo that I created using Adobe Illustrator is from one of the original sketches. I scanned the sketches onto the computer before using a tool to live trace them. I next created the flower vectors using the 'Ellipse Tool' and then the 'Free Transform Tool' to manipulate the shape created into a more petal shape before placing them in an arrangement of a flower. I experimented with a range of colours before finalising the first development of the logo with pale pink petals for the vector flowers. I also created a bee vector using the same process.

First development of the 'National Bee Campaign' logo sketch. For this design I experimented with various fonts, picking out designs that I felt suited the brand. This particular font gave the logo a 'young' feel to it as it is similar to handwriting. This would suit the target audience being a range from children to adults however it would not be completely desirable if the brand was to establish a more sophisticated approach, hence the following development.

Further development of the logo design, featuring addition of vector bees and a change of font. After considering that the campaign may focus more on an adult target audience I experimented with further fonts before choosing this one to represent what the logo would look like if a different font unlike the original was used. It immediately gives the logo a more 'grown up' image, beside the addition of vector bees. I kept the vector bees included despite the idea that they bring an element of youth to the logo as they serve the purpose of not leaving the logo consisting of only text.

Final development of logo design showing different shades of yellow for the bee vector. The only change featured from the previous development is the alteration of the vector bees. I altered the second and third bee vectors by reducing the tone of yellow each time for each bee vector, this increased the number the colours present in the logo which also increased the depth to the logo.

Trace of original sketch with addition of bee vector for the 'NBC' logo design. Another logo sketch that I produced on Adobe Illustrator is the design for the 'NBC' or 'National Bee Campaign'. The logo features the dashed trails similarly left by cartoon bees, and also a small vector bee that I created using the 'Brush Tool' in Adobe Illustrator.

Style of the logo sketch recreated using a font rather than 'Brush Tool' within Adobe Illustrator.  Similarly to the other design I decided to try the logo with a solid font rather than the traced font from my original sketches. The change of the font gave the logo a more professional sophisticated look that is more appropriate for the target audience being aimed at adults.

Unit 3 Logo Design Sketches

The above post shows a scanned in image of the logo sketches that I created in the early stages of design. I first sketched the initials of the possible brand name, later moving onto using the full brand names within the logo sketches. I also experimented with how the different logos would look depending on how the words were presented, for example the brand name 'Before its too late', had a variation that included 'slang words' such as 'L8' and the use of the number '4' as the word 'for'.

Unit 2 Packaging Designs (Adobe Illustrator)

The above image shows the net for my final packaging design for the brand, 'The Seed Tree'. This was printed onto thick paper so that once assembled it would efficiently hold the weight of the contents. The colour scheme reflected the logos colours and brand's overall theme, with attention paid specifically to the colours used for the text to ensure that the font was visible and apart from the background. The information provided on the packaging was all relevant including contents list, instructions and tips for planting the seeds. The packaging also features vectors used within the logo to highlight what sorts of seeds are included.

Variation of the final packaging piece, with the only difference being the background colour changing to a mauve purple. I created this variation whilst experimenting with the different aspects of the colour scheme.

Unit 2 Final Logo Designs ( Adobe Illustrator)

First developed logo sketch for the brand: The Seed Tree. This logo features both the company name and a vector image of a seed growing to link in with the nature of the company. The colour palette of this logo includes four different shades of green and various browns using an ombre effect on the seed vector to create a natural 'earthy' feel.

Development of 'The Seed Tree' logo sketches. Another logo sketch that I created on Adobe Illustrator which consists of an explosion of seeds coming from the text in the centre with the outer edge including vectors of vegetables and flowers. This logo includes a vast amount of colour however I selected them specifically with no major clashes of tones or hues.

Further development of 'The Seed Tree' logo design. This design of the logo is very visual with it being mainly a vector tree growing from a plant pot. The logo does include the brand name however this feature is less prominent compared to the previous two designs. The reason that I did not choose this design as the final logo was due to the target audience being a broad range and this only hitting the younger aged spectrum.
